Emkoji is a temple along the pilgrimage route, between Temple 9 (法輪寺) and Temple 10 (切幡寺). It is known for its artistic displays within the temple grounds. It has seen growing popularity among pilgrims in recent years due to the convenience of its location, as well as increased media coverage of the art within. According to the Chief Priest of Enkoji, many have unofficially dubbed the temple as Temple 9.5.
When you enter the main hall, make sure to look up and find the intricate design of a dragon, drawn with only ink on gold submarine paper. The dragon is a God of water, which watches over the 100 children depicted in the guest room. You will find artistic displays in many parts of the temple.
