No water, no toilet, no privacy, but it has a vending machine,
General Description: Located about 3 km west of Kongofukuji (T38), along prefectural road No. 27, in the "Odo Dragonfly Park". The shape of the hut is inspired by a dragonfly flying toward the Pacific Ocean. The scale is larger than typical huts to fit the park.
5/10/2019 Comments: This is a large hut with a large resting platform, but quite open. It provides good shelter against the rain and sun as it has a roof with quite a large overhang. The hut would be draughty in windy conditions, though it is somewhat sheltered by the trees in the park, so it would be pleasant in warm weather, but cold during the winter. The park didn’t appear to have any lighting and is somewhat isolated. Highway 27 is the only road on the western side of Cape Ashizuri, so is reasonably busy. There are no nearby facilities for at least a kilometre in either direction. A drink vending machine was located in front of the hut in October 2019. Power for the drink vending machine came from a powerbox behind the hut, though there appears to be no power for the hut itself.
It is recommend that if you plan your return from Ashizuri along the west coast, go to see John Manjiro's hometown, Tosashimizu via this hut. Nakahama Manjirō (1827 – 1898), more commonly known as John Manjirō, was one of the first Japanese people to visit the United States and an important translator during the early years of the 19th Century opening of Japan.
