General Description: It is located about 1.3 kilometres past Eifukuji (T57). It is reached by taking a tee-junction on the main Henro Michi after passing the Inuzuka Reservoir. The hut is about 150m to the right (west) of the Henro Michi following the Ministry of Environment trail. It is approximately 1.5 kilometres further to Senyuji (T58). The shape of the hut mimics the style of a full-sized temple.
Water: Available via a hand pump at the hut. (see comments) Toilet: Not Available Water/Toilet are available at both T57 and T58.
26/3/2023 Comments: When I walked past the cherry blossom was in bloom and it was a spectacular sight. Apparently since the original construction of the hut a hand pump has been installed. I tested it and water did flow, though I am not sure of its quality for drinking (pump may need to be primed with water from the plastic container). A sign in the hut (badly translated by me) states “Sleeping outdoors is bad for your health, so if you dont mind sleeping in a shabby house, don’t hold back”. The sign then gives a phone number for accommodation in Kubota, about 40km away. The site is remote, it would be dark and isolated at night. The hut itself is a substantial structure with a solid roof. Open above waist height and surrounded with trees, it would be cool in summer. Dry but cold in the cooler and wetter months.
Don’s sleep score: 1
Nice rest stop but no water, no toilet. There is a tsuyado at the temple up the mountain which MAY be available. That would be a much better choice, if available.
