Without a doubt the best hotel I visited on my entire pilgrimage. The owner spoke english, welcomed me and went out of his way to ensure a perfect experience at the end of a long hiking day.
For the tired henro the big benefit is that the hotel is located only a short walk from Temple 36, Shoryuji, and it has the most stunning onsen room set into the rock wall overlooking the pacific ocean. Downsides being that it is a short hike uphill from that temple and is more expensive than typical minshuku-style accommodation that is prevalent along the trail. If you plan on going cheap for the entire pilgrimage but are willing to splash out for at least 1 night then Villa Santorini has got to be the one you choose. Was a mental life-saver for me on my journey and I'll be visiting again each and every time I do the hike.
