I stayed at Fukuya in 2014 after passing on a pilgrim hut/shelter several kilometers before it. I made my reservation last minute but fortunately, they had one room left that day. They served possibly the best minshuku/ryokan meal I had on my pilgrimage. Dinner consisted of several seafood plates and other pickled side dishes. Although it was a lot of food, it was perfect after walking more than 30 km that day, and I ate all of it. Dinners here are brought to your tatami room to eat privately, instead of having guests dine together in the same dining space or hall as most other ryokan do.
The ryokan’s rooms are positioned closely next to one another alongside corridors. One thing to note is the walls were not very thick. I was able to hear the cheering and conversations coming from the large group in the next room, but it didn't personally bother me too much as the party died down before 9 pm. My room was very clean and the futon bedding was comfortable, so I quickly drifted into a deep sleep after hitting the sack.
