General Description:
About 38 km from Shoryuji (T36), located at the entrance of the Soemimizu Henro Trail in Nakatosa Town. It is also about 18 kilometres to Iwamotoji (T37) of which about 5km is via the Henro Trail to Nanako-toge Pass.
The Henro Hut Association notes; The shape of the hut is derived from a flower "Suifuyo" which was the knickname of a previous Ohenro. He suffered heat stroke while on pilgrimage and was helped by his friend. Although a potentially bad situation, the experience deepened his understanding of the meaning of pilgrimage. After his death, the bereaved family offered a donation to build this hut
29/9/2019 Comments:
This hut is in a sheltered position by the side of a narrow road at the start of the Soemimizu Henro Trail. The location is just within the beginning of the hilly forest, a few hundred metres from a populated rural area. Consequently the site, while close to some housing, is isolated and would be dark at night. The hut and surrounding trees (September 2019) provide good shelter from the weather, though the trees shed a fair bit of debris into the hut.
In September 2019 it was observed that a small broom, dustpan and brush was available to sweep the leaves out of the hut to keep it clean. So I swept out some leaves and other debris as a courtesy and as procrastination, before gritting my teeth and venturing up the trail proper.
The township of Tosa-Kure is approximately 2km to the east and numerous facilities are available there, including the Tosa-Kure railway station.
