I thought this place was fine and the food was good. As with many ryokans, it might be a bit older etc., but there's a bit of a 'get what you pay for' and many of these inexpensive places on trail are a fantastic bargain, with great culinary variety. Perhaps, I'm not terribly picky.

Pros: It is mere steps away from Dainichiji (T13). The meals are ample and good quality.
Cons: An older building, a little tired.
Indeterminate: This was my first experience of communal (though gender segregated) bathrooms. It can be a little bit of a culture shock to those of us not used to it. I did get somewhat more comfortable with the concept later on, but early on this can be a daunting/scary experience.

After leaving Dainichiji I spent some time at the Ichinomiya shrine across the road then walked into Myozai Ryokan which was only a few tens of metres away. There was a little communications difficulty regarding meals but there was ultimately no problem and I booked in for the night.
That evening, as I prepared to use the communal bathroom, the man who seemed to be the concierge, sneakily swapped out the yukata I had found in my room, to another, larger one. Clearly, standard ryokan yukatas are sized for smaller frames than mine!
