Our room was comfortable with an ensuite. We arrived early and the woman at reception let us check in early. We left our luggage and made a beeline to the temple backpack free. It surprisingly took us longer than we expected and a mad rush to make it back for dinner. Our dinner was fabulous and washed down with a few too many scotch’s. Such a pleasant place to rest up on our pilgrimage.

A smallish, two storey establishment, built diagonally to highway 33 which is the main road through Kumakougen. The car park takes up a good section of the triangular space in front of the hotel.
Rooms: I had a ground floor, western style room with a built in ensuite. While the room looked tired, it was also a large sized room for a single occupancy, which made me wonder if the hotel has sections which are being renovated piece by piece. The reception area looked quite new.
Food: The restaurant is part of the hotel and very convenient.
---oooOOOooo--- The afternoon unravels as I walk along the left hand edge of highway 33. No footpath. In the rain. Heading for Kumakogen, which isn’t that far away, to find my place to stay. Ultimately when I checked into the hotel I lay on the bed for a while and drifted off for a gentle snooze. It was too late to visit temple 44 anyway. I planned on visiting both Taihoji (T44) and Iwayaji (T45) the next day and returning to Kumakogen. I had hoped to get back to this hotel, but they told me they were fully booked. I can leave my pack at the hotel which will be nice, but I must find a another place to stay in the evening. ...
As I went to check out I mentioned I was looking for somewhere to stay and the lady at reception said they had a cancelled room, so I got booked back into the same room I had the previous night. I don't have any worries about finding accommodation tonight. ...
It’s dark when I get back to the hotel. But thankfully it wasn’t wet like the morning. The day ends with me sitting, the only one, in the Hotel dining room while the bar is lined with blokes watching New Zealand play Ireland in the Rugby World Cup.
