Pilgrim Hut No.34 Kumakogen

No water, no toilet, right next to a busy road;

General Description:

It is located on prefectural road No. 12 from Iwayaji (T45) to Joruriji (T46). Approximately 9km from Iwayaji (T45) on the northern side of the road at the western Tonomido Tunnel entrance. It is also only 2 kilometres from Daihoji (T44) if the tee-junction of prefectural road 12 at Kamakoue Sport Park is taken.

19/10/2019 Comments:

A quite small hut, well sheltered from the weather as it is up near the hill face and vegetation. It was raining as I passed and it can be seen (attached photo) that the inside of the hut and a good area outside are still dry. Protected by the sheltered location and roof overhang, even though the hut only has half height walls.

It is located in a small parking bay just before a long road tunnel. A moderate amount of traffic and noise could be expected here. The location is isolated. However, a public telephone is located adjacent to the hut.

There are high visibility sashes available at both ends on the tunnel for the use of pedestrians. I hadn't seen that anywhere else. High commendation to the Kumakogen Traffic Safety Association.
