This is the last shrine and rest stop before pilgrims will make a steep descend, followed by a final ascend to Temple 12 Shosanji (焼山寺). Jorenji is also known as Ipponsugian (一本杉庵), meaning "one cedar shrine". This name comes from a large cedar tree nearby that was believed to be planted by Kobo Daishi, the Buddhist monk whom the Shikoku Pilgrimage is based on.
